On February 14th, MAR had the opportunity to attend the Tampa Bay Collard Green Festival, a vibrant annual celebration centered around culture, health, food, and community. What began as a grassroots gathering has grown into one of St. Petersburg’s most anticipated annual events, bringing together thousands of attendees to celebrate wellness, heritage, and connection.
Celebrating Culture and Community at the Tampa Bay Collard Green Festival
Founded in 2018, the festival was created to honor the cultural and historical significance of collard greens while promoting healthy living and strong community ties. Today, it features live music, cooking demonstrations, fitness activities, local vendors, and mission-driven organizations working to make a difference.
You can learn more about the festival’s mission and history through the official Tampa Bay Collard Green Festival website.
Throughout the day, our team connected with community members, shared more about MAR’s environmental initiatives, and discussed upcoming volunteer opportunities. Events like this allow us to meet people where they are and invite them into meaningful action.
Sharing Love and Growing Connections
At our table, we invited attendees to write down their definition of love. The responses were thoughtful, inspiring, and deeply rooted in community values. We were especially grateful to see familiar faces, including volunteers and partners who stopped by to say hello and reconnect.
The festival took place near Deuces Food Forest, a longtime MAR partner. Being in that space, surrounded by music, good food, and powerful conversations, reminded us why showing up consistently matters. Strong communities are built through presence, trust, and shared experiences.
