Folly Farm Invasive Species Removal & Trail Creation

On January 3rd, we kicked off the new year at Folly Farm with an incredible volunteer workday, and we could not have asked for a better start. Sixteen dedicated volunteers joined us on site, including many familiar faces who continue to show up and support this land again and again. Seeing so many repeat volunteers means everything to us, so thank you for coming back out and putting in the work.

In just two hours, our group removed over 3,000 pounds of invasive species. The majority of what we tackled was primrose willow juvenile trees, which have been spreading aggressively throughout the area. Thanks to the hard work and teamwork of our volunteers, we made a huge dent in their removal and opened up the landscape in a big way.

This workday also marked the beginning of trail creation at Folly Farm. We cleared so much space that we were able to reconnect to the area where we completed our very first invasive species removal and create a clear, walkable path. Watching the land open back up and start to take shape was incredibly rewarding.

A big thank you to Harbordish for generously donating delicious snacks to keep our volunteers fueled and happy throughout the morning. Good food and good people make a big difference on workdays like this.

The weather showed up for us too. At a beautiful 71 degrees, we spent the morning jamming out, catching up after the holidays, and getting our hands dirty restoring the land together. It was one of those days that reminds us why community-based restoration is so powerful.

There is still plenty of primrose willow left in this area, and we will be heading back soon to continue the work. If this event is any indication, we are off to a strong and hopeful start for the year ahead.

Thank you to everyone who came out, supported, and helped make this day such a success. We cannot wait to see you at the next Folly Farm workday.
